Guidelines for installing parquet on tile floors

Discover essential guidelines for installing parquet on tile floors. Follow these tips for a successful installation.
  • Placing parquet on an existing tile floor is possible under certain circumstances. Some situations can make installation difficult or even impossible. If in doubt, always contact our technical advisor.
  • Please check the building construction situation. Is there a basement or a moisture barrier? Old tile floors used to be sometimes installed directly in silt (sand) and problems due to rising damp can occur! Also behind the baseboards!

If there is sufficient moisture insulation (moisture barrier under the screed):

  • Heavily soiled floors first degrease with Woodboy machine, liquid tank, green/white scrub brush and Devo Strongclean. Allow to dry overnight.
  • Careful for floors treated with nourishing soaps or floor polishes. These should also be degreased first with Devo Strongclean. Residues of wax can prevent adhesion. This can be done with the Woodboy with sanding disc P24, P40 or P60, or even better with a drive plate with diamond heads such as the Devo Diamond Segment G20 plate.
  • Please vacuum.
  • Clean with Devo PU Cleaner. This is an adhesion promoter and removes the last traces of dirt and dust and promotes optimal adhesion.
  • Gluing can preferably be done with Devo Glue PU 500 2C, Devo Glue MSP 140 1C or Devo Glue MSP 250 1C.
  • Only stable parquet floors are suitable for installation on tiled floors, certainly not wide solid planks. Ask your parquet supplier for advice on which type of parquet is best suited for this.

If no moisture barrier is present, or of uncertain quality:

  • Devo Primer Hydroblock 3C can provide a solution in many cases.
  • First check the floor for cracks, fissures and loose parts. All imperfections in the structure should be repaired so that Devo Primer Hydroblock 3C can form one uniform sealing layer, without breaks where moisture may still be able to rise through.
  • Pre-treat the floor as described above: clean with Devo Strongclean, pre-sand, vacuum and clean with Devo PU Cleaner.
  • Then apply 2 layers of Devo Primer Hydroblock 3C according to the instructions in the technical data sheet.
  • Never use Devo Primer Hydroblock 3C when the floor is wet in puddles.
  • For bonding to Devo Primer Hydroblock 3C, only use the compatible Devo Glue PU 500 2C.

        Note

        • As in any home where there is a parquet floor, keeping the relative humidity (RLV) stable between 40 and 70% is very important to prevent damage.
