Guidelines for installing parquet on Fermacell boards
Discover essential guidelines for installing parquet on Fermacell boards. Follow these tips for a successful installation.
- Fermacell is a product of Xella, and because of its soundproofing, fireproofing and ecological properties is increasingly used in renovation construction. It is a Gypsum fiber board, made by a pressing of paper fibers and gypsum waste. Due to its specific composition and mechanical characteristics, the Fermacell board requires some specific requirements to be met in order to install parquet on it.
- Because of the lower surface cohesion of Fermacell boards, it is advisable not to install solid parquet, because of too high a level of stress. Only less nervous parquet types such as multilayer parquet, laminate parquet, etc. are recommended. An intermediate floor of OSB boards or plywood can offer a solution.
- Always take into account the installation direction of the parquet boards. When seams in the parquet floor correspond to seams in the Fermacell floor then, due to the movement of the Fermacell boards, the seams of the parquet floor may open up at that location. In order to avoid this, one can choose to place an intermediate floor in OSB or plywood.
- Always sand the Fermacell sheets first with the Woodboy machine with P16 or P24 grit.
- The sanding dust of Fermacell sheets is very fine and can be detrimental to good adhesive contact. After sanding, one should therefore always vacuum very thoroughly.
- For the same reason, it is recommended to place a pretreatment with Devo Primer Express PU or Devo Primer PA400 ½ diluted with Devo Diluente D40. This will fix the dust and improve the glue adhesion.
- The gluing can preferably be done with Devo Glue PU 500 2C.
Note
- As in any home where there is a parquet floor, keeping the relative humidity (RLV) stable between 40 and 70% is very important to prevent damage.
